The Minnesota Supreme Court ruled yesterday in favor of Senator-Elect Al Franken (D-Minn.) ending a seven month legal battle between former Senator Norm Coleman and Franken. Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty certified the results last night and officially made Coleman the next senator from the state.

Franken's election to the Senate will now give the Democrats a super-majority of 60 seats. If all Democratic members of the chamber vote together on a respective bill, they would form a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. The last time there was such a wide margin between the parties was in the 95th Congress (1977-1979).
