Floral Industry Legislative Issues - Immigration Reform

Updated guidelines that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials issued this week confirmed previous signals from President Obama and his administration: Worksite enforcement of immigration laws will focus on employers first --  and then illegal workers. However, the new guidelines clearly indicate a focus on employers who knowingly hire illegal workers.

In his news conference last week, the President reiterated his strong desire to move immigration reform this year.  He spoke of "moving the process" and of "building confidence."  But he also reeled off a list of everything else on the Administration's plate he said "Ultimately I don't have control of the legislative calendar."

Meanwhile, SAF will continue to push for AgJOBS and will work closely with the Agriculture Coalition for Immigration Reform (ACIR).
